School project in India

SIGI-CARE supports educational development in India and is covering tuition costs for all of the children of its 150 employees at the company’s Tirupur location. In India, tuition includes funds for books, school uniforms and an education fee, and parents must pay the school the total amount once a year (in a single payment). On average, tuition costs for two children are about half of a tailor’s monthly salary. The school year in India begins and ends in March. Our employees’ children are taught at seven different schools. The tuition is paid directly to the schools each year to ensure that the funds are truly used for the children’s education. Below we offer a few impressions from a typical Indian school day, gained during our trip to India in November, 2008.
